Why have humans advanced so much in the last 100 years?

Humans basically had the same standard of living and lived very similarly for like tens of thousands of years. Then in the last 2 or 3 hundred years and especially in the last hundred we have advanced so far it’s unbelievable. The last 1 or 2 percent of human history has accounted for more technology and innovation than the first 99 or 98 it seems like. Why?

It is not fair to compare objects from different eras. Humans made many advances over the course of all previous centuries. The only reason we say we advanced so much is due to us witnessing it.
For our era we can think the end of the industrial age and the beginning of the digital one. Like I have said, we can’t really compare a time period we have lived in with one that we have not.

One technological advancement always lead to the next, which starts a chain reaction of advancements. Like take the iPad 2 for example. It is thinner, has two cameras, and still a great tool! That will eventually lead to new goals for Apple to set and reach.

Technology advanced yes, don’t know why it has been so fast, more knowledge maybe? HUMANS have not advanced in my opinion. We are a glum, greedy, bunch of animals with no values left whatsoever, that are so interested in "progressing" that we are progressing ourselves right into SH*T. Just my opinion.

Free markets and capitalism. In order to compete the rest of the world had to innovate and increase their level of science and technology. Notice how that now the powers that be are trying to dismantle capitalistic and free market countries and as a result we are slipping back into the dark ages.
Redistribution of wealth and socialism equals fail-sauce.

give a bit more credit to our ancestors, the standard of living changed for the better a whole lot over thousands of years.

a big reason why we arent more advanced now is religion. for much of history, religious rulers were in power, and it took a darn long time for great minds to be able to truly flourish and invent. history is full of people who had ideas hundreds of years before their time. and sadly history is full of religious rulers who did everything they could to keep things the way theyve been for hundreds of years prior.

its not a coincedence that countries that are deeply religious today are not up to date with technology.

Well you’ve just prooved to yourself that the "fact" we’ve been around for tens of thousands of years is actually a myth! We’ve been around for only 6000 and odd years. Carbon dating can not go any further back than the flood of noahs day, which occurred roughly about 4000 BC, because the flood removed all evidence of the previous world! So really, we don’t all just stem from Adam & Eve, we also stem from Noah & his family!
We are not actually advancing, we are deteriorating, but with the mask of advancing because Of "cures" that we now have for things. Did u even know that noah was 600 years old when the flood came? How dare they say we live longer these days & that’s an advancement! If we had no medicine advancements, we would be dying now way younger than 100 years ago! Another reason for superficial advancement (superficial is good, don’t get me wrong, makes life easier, but it’s not proper advancement like world peace or good health), is the fact that our world population has only gotten bigger than the thousands in the last 200 years! The more people around, the more chance if freak like IQs to invent things!! The only reason our population has grown so quickly over the last 200 years, is because we don’t kill everyone who has independent thinking, which I believe is not an advancement on our part, but of gods because otherwise we would still not have the bible in English!!

Humans have very good memory and reasoning skills. They are about the only animal that has members that are good at, and enjoy, math and other sciences. Then a human named da Vinci came on the scene and he was a terrific designer who laid the groundwork for others like Edison, Bell, Einstein, von Braun Oppenheimer and others to develop them into really useful items. This opened the way for chemists and scientists, especially one named Tim Leary who designed the most wonderful thing that enabled an exceptionally huge explosion of the human mind which he named LSD. This, along with hashish, mescaline and marijuana, greatly fueled innovation and inventiveness of the human beings throughout the twentieth century.
